Vilsack’s In
Uber-Centrist Democrat and chairman of the Republican wing of the Democratic Party, the Democratic Leadership Council, Gov. Tom Vilsack (D-IA) launched his presidential candidacy yesterday amid the media storm of the Democrats’ takeover over congress and Sec’y of Defense Rumsfeld’s resignation. Not an auspicious start, but there are 15 months to go before the Iowa caucuses, so he’s got time to make another splash.
Which he intends to do at the end of the month with a 4-state announcement trip, including a visit to NH.
Downside: Vilsack is a long-shot at best, with almost zero name recognition nationally – and winning his home state Iowa caucuses didn’t give Sen. Tom Harkin much of a bump in 1992.
Upside: His campaign logo has a decidedly V for Vendetta look about it.
