Take a Bite Out of This
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) needs a lesson in cause and effect. Back in 1994, when she was First Lady, she devised a secret plan to set the cause of national health care back three generations; she didn’t seem to understand that private insurers are the reason for unaffordably expensive health care in America, not the solution to it.
As Sen. Clinton she still can’t comprehend the logical nexus between giving the president authority to go war, and the president actually using that authority.
And now, as presidential candidate Clinton, her answer to increased violent crime in our cities is to beef up the war on drugs and spend $1billion in federal funds to hire more police officers – never suspecting that drug prohibition is the primary reason for all that violent crime in the first place. And while more cops means more arrests, it also means more people in prison, while we’ve already got 2 million Americans incarcerated. Far more than any other country in the world.
If her best effort is to dredge up the police-pandering COPS program from her husband’s administration to prove that she’s tough on crime, and throw more money at the miserably failed war on drugs – which in terms of cost and lives ruined is a far graver debacle than the Iraq war – then she’s hopelessly stuck in the past, offers no hope for the future, and promises us more of the same small-minded authoritarianism that the US government has been sliding into for the past 25 years. No thanks. A hundred thousand new cops on the street? How about 100,000 new teachers? 100,000 new funding opportunities for scientists working to mitigate climate change and develop alternative energy sources? 100,000 new drug counselors, 100,000 new job counselors… Comments?
