The Greening of NH
More evidence that the NH presidential primary is not going away:
According to the most recent NH state financial disclosure reports, presidential hopefuls are greasing the skids for themselves in anticipation of the 2008 presidential primary.
Former VA Gov Mark Warner (D) contributed $45K to Democratic candidates and committees –$17K to the New Hampshire Democratic State Committee, $15K to the state Senate Democratic Caucus, and $10K to the Committee to Elect House Democrats.
Sen Joe Biden's (D-DE) PAC, Unite Our States contributed $15K to the state Democratic Committee.
Sen Evan Bayh (D-IN) made an in-kind contribution of 15 staff members to Democratic state senate candidates.
Naturally, the Republicans are doing the same. Last month, Arizona Sen John McCain's (R-AZ) PAC, Straight Talk America, contributed $2K to the Derry Town Republican Committee.
A week later, Gov Mitt Romney’s (R-MA) PAC, Commonwealth PAC, matched it – cha-ching for Derry Republicans.
In the past two weeks, potential presidential candidates have given more than $91K to the NH Republican State Committee, state Senate candidates and local Republican committees. According to previous filings, likely presidential candidates had already contributed $115K to various New Hampshire campaigns.
Gov George Pataki’s (R-NY) 21st Century Freedom PAC gave $2K apiece to 15 Senate Republican candidates, and $5K to the Senate Republican Victory PAC.
Laying the groundwork with cold hard cash, ingratiating themselves with the free use of political operatives, frequent visits to the Granite State... all indications despite the efforts of the Democratic Nat’l Committee, the NH first-in-the-nation presidential primary promises to be as pivotal this election cycle as any other.
